'Lotus' looks toward Meera's Indian roots and family history.
The lotus symbolizes resilience within Indian culture. Lotuses vibrantly bloom in defiance of the mud they are rooted in. They prosper, persevering to emerge above water unscathed and beautiful.
However, Meera's connection to lotuses extends past this inspirational message. Her last name, 'Thamaran,' stems from the root word 'Tamara,' meaning "Lotus" in Malayalam, her family's native language. Meera's great-grandfather, a freedom fighter who dedicated his life to his community's freedom from British colonial rule, chose "Thamaran" as the last name he would pass on to his children to mark a new beginning. Ultimately, lotuses are a beacon of hope, new ideas, and resilience.

Meet Meera Thamaran, Founder and CEO of Lotus
Meera is not just an innovator and strategist, but a passionate marketer with a deep-rooted love for her field. Her academic pursuits at Northeastern University, majoring in Business and Psychology with a concentration in Corporate Innovation and a minor in Strategy, are complemented by her hands-on experiences in strategy consulting and marketing. This combination allows her to deepen her industry knowledge and learn by doing, fueling her dedication to the field.
In 2021, Meera founded Lotus, originally known as Lotus Designs, as a social media marketing business focused on the execution side of digital marketing. However, her vision for the company has evolved. With a strong desire to help businesses grow through strategic support, she has transformed Lotus Designs into Lotus: a dynamic marketing consulting business, marking a significant step in the company's growth and evolution.
A woman in business with all-female mentors guiding her in her business journey, Meera is immensely grateful for all her support and is passionate about continuing the cycle to uplift other women in business. As such, in 2023, Meera began using Lotus' platform to 1) exclusively cater services toward women-owned small businesses to empower female entrepreneurs and combat the gender gap in VC funding and 2) donate profit to women-owned microenterprises in developing regions to support entrepreneurship as a catalyst for regional development and female financial independence and 3) hire women in business to create opportunity.
As Meera evolves in her business acumen, Lotus blooms further— both ever-changing.
